Home Renovation and Addition with Ravine Views

Etobicoke 3200 sq. ft.

We had just finished the house next door when the owners of this property called. Their home backed onto a ravine and had been built as though the ravine were not there.

The Vision

The house faced away from the best thing about the lot. The backyard and the forest behind it were barely part of daily life.

The owners wanted to:

  • Turn the house around to face the ravine
  • Make room for a growing family
  • Connect the inside of the house to the outside

Our Approach

We reworked the house around its setting so the backyard and the tree line became part of how the family lives, not just something they see on the way to the garage.

  • Added a new level above the family room for a private primary retreat
  • Gave the children their own dedicated floor
  • Rebuilt the main floor layout

The kitchen is now the centre of the house, with clear views to the backyard. A front-facing home office gives one quiet room away from everything else. The family room has soaring ceilings and large patio doors opening onto a new deck.

The Result

The house finally makes sense on its lot. Every space, from the mudroom to the fully equipped basement suite, was designed around how this family actually moves through the day.
