This project marked our first independent new build in the Leaside neighbourhood, an opportunity to design a modern family home while contributing to the city’s growing need for smarter urban density.
The Vision
The goal was to create a comfortable, future-ready home for a young working family, while also incorporating a laneway suite to support flexible living and align with the city’s push toward multi-unit housing.
The design needed to balance:
- Family living and work-from-home needs
- Long-term adaptability
- A cohesive look between the main house and secondary unit
Our Approach
We designed a 4,000 sq. ft. custom home that combines functionality with a clean, modern aesthetic.
- The main house features a warm, timeless exterior using brick and stone
- The laneway suite introduces a more contemporary design, creating a subtle contrast while still feeling connected
- Interior spaces were planned to support today’s lifestyle, with a strong focus on flexibility and comfort
To enhance everyday living, the home also includes smart home automation systems, making it easier to manage lighting, climate, and security.
The Result
The final build delivers a well-balanced living environment for a modern family, combining space, functionality, and thoughtful design.
At the same time, the addition of the laneway suite contributes to the evolution of the neighbourhood, offering a practical solution for increasing density while maintaining the character of the area.
