This project involved transforming a 1,300 sq. ft. home into a fully customized space designed for a growing family, balancing traditional design with modern functionality.
The Challenge
The existing home needed a major upgrade to support a larger family, while also respecting the client’s preference for more defined, traditional living spaces rather than an open-concept layout.
The goal was to:
- Plan for long-term flexibility
- Expand both vertically and horizontally
- Improve functionality without losing character
Our Approach
We carried out a full structural transformation of the home:
- Expanded the basement both vertically and horizontally to increase usable space
- Added a complete second-storey addition
- Introduced a third-storey loft for additional flexibility
To maintain a more traditional feel, we incorporated double pocket doors in the formal living room—allowing for privacy when needed while keeping spaces connected.
The main floor features a chef-inspired kitchen that opens onto a covered deck, created by the cantilevered second floor above.
We also included full utility rough-ins for a future laneway suite, ensuring the home can adapt over time.
The Result
The finished home offers a well-balanced layout that feels both functional and timeless.
It supports the needs of a growing family today, while also being prepared for future expansion, making it a long-term investment in both comfort and value.
